This term we are reading ‘tales from outer suburbia’ by Shaun Tan. I am finding it really interesting – even a tad quirky.

We are currently reading the short story Distant Rains. It begins with –

Have you ever wondered what happens to all the poems people write? The poems they never let anyone else read?

I’ve never thought about it but obviously our author has! It goes on …

Perhaps they are too private or personal. Perhaps they are not just good enough. Perhaps the prospect of such a heartfelt expression being seen as CLUMSY, SHALLOW, SILLY, SACCHARINE, PRETENTIOUS, UNORIGINAL, SENTIMENTAL, TRITE, BORING, OVERWROUGHT, OBSCURE, POINTLESS, STUPID, or SIMPLY EMBARRASSING..

Well, we’ve decided to see if we can write our own examples of these types of poems and present them at our next assembly. STAY TUNED!!
