In Maths we looked at how we could combine 3 different  single digit  numbers (you don’t have to use all the numbers) using only addition and subtraction, to get every number between one and ten.

We originally tried the numbers 1,4 and 7 but discovered we couldn’t make the number 9.

Amy came up with a solution using the numbers 2,3 and 7.

1 = 3-2

2 = 7-(2+3)

3 = 3

4 = 7-3

5 =  7-2 or 2+3

6 = 2+7-3

7 = 7

8 = 7+3-2

9 = 7+2

10 = 7+3

We also came up with these solutions:

Shanae = 1,3,6

Jorgia = 1,3,7

Jake =  1,3,8

Kelsie = 1,3,9

Nesha = 2,3,9

There are other solutions but they must meet certain criteria.

All the numbers had to total 10 or more.

You can’t have 3 even numbers.

You can’t have 2 even numbers and an odd.

You don’t have to have a 1 in it.

Please let us know if you come up with any other solutions.
